Caheragh National School

Caheragh N.S. is a rural co-educational, Catholic primary school, located near the village of Caheragh, between Skibbereen and Bantry in scenic West Cork.

The school staff consists of three classroom teachers, a Special Educational Needs teacher, and two full time Special Needs Assistants. At present there are 58 children enrolled in the school.

The school was built in 1977 following the amalgamation of Gurrane (built in 1887) and Killeenleigh (built in 1890).

Caheragh N.S. has a strong sporting tradition with many Sciath na Scol titles, including both the boys and girls titles in 2017 and 2023, the girls title in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2024 and the boys title in 2016.
The school works closely with the local GAA club Tadhg MacCarthaigh.

Caheragh N.S. recognises and upholds Irish traditions such as Céilí dancing and traditional Irish music (in the form of singing and tin whistle instruction).

Caheragh N.S. has had great success on both a local and national level with various quizzes such as the Credit Union quiz and the Library quiz.

In recent years we introduced some new sports to the school such as basketball, fitness training, golf, cycle sense and tag rugby. We also did yoga and zumba.

The school has had success coming first in the country in 2017, 2021 and 2022, while competing in the Junior Target Board Challenge during Maths Week.

Our school is a hive of active learning and creativity where each child is truly treated as an individual and where the child is central to the learning process.
