For more than 30 years, Chronic Pain Ireland has tirelessly advocated for improved access to care and greater education within the healthcare community and society.

Established in 1992, Chronic Pain Ireland serves as the national organisation providing essential information and support services to individuals living with chronic pain.

As a registered charity, we collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including those directly affected by chronic pain, their families and caregivers, healthcare professionals, students, researchers, and others interested in this field.

Chronic pain, a complex and multi-faceted disease, severely limits individuals' ability to enjoy a full life. Unfortunately, a lack of understanding within both the healthcare system and society further exacerbates the physical and emotional distress caused by persistent pain.

Many individuals endure years of pain, underscoring the urgent need for action as chronic pain management services have historically been under-resourced. Chronic Pain remains a significant public health issue in both Ireland and throughout Europe. Chronic Pain Ireland has demonstrated professional leadership by raising awareness of chronic pain, educating on coping strategies, and advocating for the needs of individuals living with chronic pain, not only in Ireland but also across Europe.

According to the 2011 PRIME Study, 35.5% of adults in Ireland suffer from chronic pain, affecting 2 in 5 individuals. Chronic Pain affects every aspect of life, impacting relationships, finances, ability to work, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

To address these challenges, Chronic Pain Ireland provides a range of essential services, including:

Chronic Pain Ireland Helpline: Immediate support for those in need.

Monthly Self-management Workshops: Empowering individuals with practical tools for managing pain.

Quarterly Self-management Courses: Comprehensive five-week self-management courses exploring key concepts, strategies, and coping skills to enhance wellness and quality of life.

Chronic Pain & Mental Health Support Group: Addressing the intersection of pain and mental well-being.

Peer-to-Peer Community Networking Meetings: Fostering connections and camaraderie among individuals facing similar challenges.

Monthly Ezine: packed with articles, tips, and resources to support individuals living with chronic pain and their families.

Nationwide Public Awareness Meetings: Educating communities about chronic pain and reducing stigma.

We also offer opportunities for Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) to ensure that the voices and experiences of those affected by chronic pain are heard and integrated into research and advocacy efforts. Our strategic research partnerships focus on empowering individuals living with chronic pain, targeting areas such as sleep improvement, stigma reduction, exercise and more.

At Chronic Pain Ireland, we recognise that individuals living with chronic pain require more than just clinical help. While medication can assist, it is rarely a complete solution. Through education, our annual awareness campaigns, and peer support networks, we strive to destigmatise chronic pain and foster a culture of empathy and support within society.

As a registered charity we adhere to the principles of good corporate governance. We are transparent and compliant with all regulatory requirements.

Donating to Chronic Pain Ireland helps us to continue to provide supports and services to those living with chronic pain, to their families and friends.

Please donate what you can and help us make a difference.
