Wildlife Rescue Cork
Wildlife Rescue Cork rescues, rehabilitates and releases sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife across Cork and surrounding counties.
WRC was set up in 2017, became a registered charity in 2020, is licensed by the NPWS and ran entirely by volunteers.
In 2023, Wildlife Rescue Cork took in over 487 wild animals and dealt with double that in calls to help and advise members of the public on wild animals.
They are expecting these numbers to increase drastically in 2024 and beyond.
Julie Cronin is the founder and chairperson of the charity and manages the care of all the animals from a facility in Whitechurch.
As the aim is to release all the animals, the facility is not open to the public
The centre is ran by Julie and some core volunteers who go out to rescue wildlife, transport and care for them at the centre.
Julie is a graduate of UCC and has a long history of working with wildlife. Her love of helping wildlife took a practical turn in 2010, when still in college, she travelled to Durban, South Africa and volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation centre called C.R.O.W.
From there she continued to gain experience and worked in Canada at Critter Care Wildlife Society in British Columbia for a year. This was followed by a stint as a Senior Wildlife Rehabilitator at Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue, Scotland for a further year.
She has worked in Fota Wildlife Park and now currently works in the I.S.P.C.A Equine Centre in Mallow Cork•
